Getting a Learner Licence in the ACT

To obtain a Learner's Licence in the ACT you must complete this Pre-learner (Road Ready) course.
This course will alert you to many skills required for safe driving and to the hazards out there on the roads.
The pre-learner course will also provide you with an understanding of the process for obtaining both a Learner's Licence and a Provisional Licence.

What’s the Pre-learner (Road Ready) course about?

It is a course that will build an understanding that

  • Driving demands a lot of different skills to be managed at once as a driver.
  • There are many different risks and hazards on the road that drivers need to be aware of.
  • We can plan to manage our driving more safely as a driver.
  • It takes a long time to become a safe and competent driver.
  • The pre- learner program takes up to 10 hours to complete.

Course Outline

  • Complete the Pre-learner (Road Ready) Program.
  • Pass the Road Rules Knowledge Test.
  • Go to an Access Canberra Service Centre to be issued with a Learner Licence .

The Road Rules test

  • Must be passed at the end of the program according to the regulations.
  • Is a multiple choice test and is available on the internet here.
  • If you fail the road rules test you can do redo the test 24 hours later.
  • If you fail the test twice you must pay $40.00per test, to resit.

To complete the Pre-learner course you will require to download the following:

PLEASE NOTE:  To participate in these online courses you MUST either have access to a PC with a microphone and webcam OR a smart device (mobile, tablet etc). 
If you will be attending via a smart device, you MUST download the free ‘Zoom’ app in advance. We will invite you to the course via an email link.

Cost of the program is $185.00 (plus a $9.25 booking fee). This includes two attemps of the Road Rules Test.
